A Title Appears
November 2025
When I first started writing my novel, I agonized over its name. Nothing felt right. I finally settled on SEABIRDS, figuring that I could revisit it again in the future. I queried under SEABIRDS for a year before pulling it back for a major revision. Three years later, as I near the end of that process, the title has finally arrived. One of the frustrating parts about writing is that sometimes when I want to move forward, the ideas just aren't ready. So I wait. And the thing I have been agonizing over for weeks, months, or even years, shows up when I least expect it. My novel, SEABIRDS CARRY ME HOME now has a proper name. It was so worth the wait.
Keep Going
January 2025
Months ago, I wrote to a well-known author here in Maine, who was kind enough to write me back. I taped her letter to my bedroom wall at eye-level, so I would see her words each time I walked through the door. On the second to last line, she wrote "Just do not stop, do not stop, do not stop," and I have taken her advice to heart, launching myself into the new year with a fresh vision for Seabirds.
It took me two years to write Seabirds and thought she was done but now I know it was just the beginning. So, with my backside planted firmly in my seat and my favorite author's words in my head, I am aiming to attend the Boston Writer's Conference at the end of March with a revised Seabirds in my hand.
